From Director’s Pen

Mental Health Institute (COE), SCBMCH, Cuttack is emerging as one of the best Mental Health centres with four Departments for patient care, teaching, training, and research. Being the Head of the Institution in the last five years, I have made tremendous changes in patient care, and training of MD Psychiatry students and students of M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric Social Work. In the last five years the centre has taken a new dimension with the introduction of modified ECT, RTMS, Sleep Lab, and Polysomnography under my leadership. Training of Mental Health personnel, i.e. Medical officers, Nursing officers and Counsellors in the centre has taken mental health to the community level in the State.

Mental Health Care Act 2017 was enormously contributed by me and my Professional colleagues at the Institution for the implementation in the State of Odisha. The training of Counsellors and victims of COVID-19 by Odisha Digital Academy for Mental Health was worth rewarding. Emerging new OPD block and DAC block was started with my active endeavor which is on the verge of completion. Increasing MD Psychiatry seats from 5 to 8, increasing the seats of M.Phil Clinical Psychology from 8 to 12 is to measure the contribution of the Institute in Professional training. Supply of free medicines to the all patients under NIRAMAYA scheme has been another milestone achieved by the Institute. At present the Institute has around 250 Staffs, giving a new dimension to Mental Health Care service for the people of our country.
