ONE-DAY WORKSHOP ON “APPLIED BEHAVIOUR ANALYSIS IN
MANAGEMENT OF AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER”
On 3rd March 2024 (Sunday), The Department of Clinical Psychology organized a one-day
workshop on “Applied Behavioral Analysis in the Management of Autism Spectrum Disorder.”
Prof. S.P.K. Jena, Senior Professor, Department of Applied Psychology, University of Delhi
(South Campus), New Delhi, graced the occasion as the resource person of the day.
At the beginning of the session, the Director-cum-Medical Superintendent of the Mental Health
Institute (C.o.E), Prof. Dr. S.P. Swain felicitated the resource person. After the felicitation
ceremony, Prof. Dr. S.P. Swain gave the inaugural speech.
The session began with an introduction by Dr. Jashobanta Mahapatra, HOD of Clinical
Psychology and the session was then taken over by Prof S.P.K Jena. In the first half of the
workshop topics such as Fundamental assumptions of basic concepts of applied behavior
analysis, techniques of applied behavior analysis, and behavioral assessment and diagnosis were
covered.
In the second half of the session, which continued after a short lunch break, a practical case of
Autism was discussed. During the case discussion, a child with autism, and his parents were
called on stage to discuss the problems the child is having, and simultaneously management
using ABA was discussed. This helped in increasing the practical knowledge of the participants
in understanding when, where, and how to use ABA in the management of Autism.
Following the case discussion, topics such as Management of deficit and excess behavior in
Autism, and research on ABA in Developmental Disabilities and Ethical Issues, were covered.
After the completion of topics, an interactive session was conducted, during which the resource
person, Prof S.P.K. Jena cleared doubts and answered the questions raised by the participants.
The workshop ended with a Valedictory and Vote of Thanks by Dr. Pratiti Pattnaik, coordinator
of the workshop.
