On 18th January 2024 (Thursday), The Department of Clinical Psychology organized a
guest lecture on “APPLICATION OF DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOUR THERAPY IN CLINICAL
POPULATION.” Dr. Swapnila Dash, a practicing Licensed Clinical Psychologist at
Texas,U.S.A. had graced the occasion as the resource person of the day. At the beginning
of the session, the Director-cum-Medical Superintendent of the Mental Health Institute
(C.o.E), Prof. Dr. S.P. Swain felicitated the resource person.
After the felicitation ceremony, Prof. Dr. S.P. Swain gave the inaugural speech. The
session began with an introduction by Dr. Jashobanta Mahapatra, HOD of Clinical
Psychology and was then taken over by Dr. Swapnila Dash.
The session consisted of detailed explanations regarding What is Dialectical Behaviour
Therapy (DBT) , 5 main components of DBT such as Dialectic, Mindfulness, Emotion
Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness as well. The structure
and steps of the therapeutic process in DBT was explained in detail with the prominent
methods used for skill training in the above said 5 domains of DBT .
After the completion of topics, an interactive session was conducted, during which the
resource person, Dr. Swapnila Dash cleared doubts and answered the questions raised
by the participants.
The workshop ended with a Valedictory and Vote of Thanks by Dr. Pratiti Pattnaik
